PROJECT | GARDEN ANNEX, CAMBRIDGESHIRE
This annex was designed as a self contained addition to a traditional home, providing flexible accommodation within the garden. It offers space for guests or independent living while remaining closely tied to the character of the main house.
The simple pitched roof form is clad in shou sugi ban timber, giving the building a rich textured surface that sits naturally within the landscape. Paired with clay roof tiles, the material palette recalls the language of local agricultural outbuildings while also offering a bold contemporary identity.
Large steel framed doors open directly onto the garden, filling the interior with light and creating an easy flow between inside and out. Within, the plan is compact yet efficient, providing everything needed for comfort and retreat.
The result is a modest yet distinctive addition that blends tradition with a modern sensibility, offering privacy, practicality and a strong sense of place.
